Does conversation matter?

I a am quite into infographics right now. It's a bit like the 2.0 version of story telling. A picture says more than a thousand words so why would you still need storytellers today? Everything you always wanted to know but never dared to ask is out there on the Internet. Internet is the new conversation place, no doubt about it.

With a combined crowd of over a billion users (yep 1.000.000.000) one would start wondering what all these people are talking about.


Does conversation matter?

It's the conversation, stupid - it's conversation what brought us here in the first place. Through conversation, mankind has developed itself and has undergone a remarkable transformation. Conversation started when apes started to think and developed a system for advanced social interaction through speech. You could say that conversation has been around for a couple thousands of years. But over the last forty years, conversation has been revamped, improved and ubiquitously available. the Internet brought us the online conversation and - broadband, WIFI and next gen networks such as 3G/4G gave us the mobile conversation.

Information technology is converging with conversation technology thanks to the Internet. Platforms like Google, Facebook. Yahoo and emerging ones such as Foursquare are turning conversation into business. Conversation in a 2.0 era means big bucks - combined revenues of the major internet and telco companies run into billions and more. One billion people are getting social via web and mobile solutions - one billion people are participating in a global conversation - the world will never be the same.

Over the last 150 years, we have undergone many transformations ans revolutions. After the industrial revolution, other revolutions such steel, railroads, oil, energy, automotive, telco and IT swiftly followed. Through innovation, conversation, invention, collaboration and co-creation we are where we are. We're only half way - I can tell you that - and we have exciting times ahead of us... So does conversation really matter? Think again...
